Wedding videos are a relatively new medium for the bride and groom to consider for their wedding day. As such many couples are unsure of what to ask for. I’ve tried to compile a few suggestions for the bride and groom to consider when choosing their wedding videographer.
View the videographer’s work
It may seem obvious, but it is essential that you and the videographer are on the same wavelength about how your wedding video will look. Many of us have our own fixed styles (albeit allowing for some flexibility), so please make sure you like that style – it’s your wedding video after all.
Not only should you always request a demo DVD from the wedding videographer, but be sure to ask for a recent full wedding. This way you can be sure of know exactly what you will be getting. Make a special note of the audio levels during the marriage service and speeches. If for any reason, the videographer makes an excuse or refuses to send you a sample I would strongly suggest you look elsewhere.
A major test in spotting the vital differences between a professional wedding videographer and an amateur is to see whether the videographer in question has the appropriate insurances and music licenses in place. Politely enquire if they have Public Liability insurance, and ensure that the cost for music licenses is covered in their price list.
What should I expect to pay?
When looking for a wedding videographer, price is usually the number one concern. People seem to be unaware what a fair price is and what exactly that price covers. In today’s market, you could expect to pay anything from £500 to £5000 for a wedding video. However, the old saying “you only get what you pay for”, holds very true to choosing a wedding videographer. If a quote looks too good to be true – it probably is.
How can a wedding video be so expensive? The main reason is that once a wedding videographer finishes filming the day, their work is only just beginning. A professional wedding video can take anywhere between 40-60 hours to be edited. So in consideration, a wedding video is actually fantastic value for money.

Danny - So very very true. All too often people believe that what we charge is a lot of money for one days work. Oh how I wish that were all it was.
Aaron Jones - Agreed, but creating wedding videos wouldn’t be half as much fun without the editing.
